Collections

It has been so long since my last post.   A great friend has re-inspired me to post with the start of her wonderful blog!

So, this summer has been crazy since the day we got out of school.   Between dance recital rehearsals, pictures, and dance recital, tball, puddle ducks, PAWS class, and more tball, afternoons at the pool, golfing, camping - I have found some time for my garden and some junking.   I am still looking for some scrappin time! But I will take what I can get!

I was so excited, I found a great idea in a magazine do use an old canning "thingy", I really don't know the name of that utensil so I am going to stick with "thingy".   I had the "thingy", but needed the old blue canning Mason jars.    First garage sale I hit Saturday, and what did I find, old blue canning jars.   Huge score!   $1 a piece.   Can't pass that up.  Just wish I would have just bought all of them!!!! Now I am in search of some old things like marbes, dominoes, buttons, etc. to fill these jars.   So, that is the next treasure hunt!

I have to say, the garage sale gods were looking out for me this weekend. I also found a picture of a collection of old thermos's! And low and behold, found 4 of them for a total of $4. I need to find another old picnic basket to display them! Even though I have a few already, they have a home that I don't want to disturb.

You may not be able to see them, but I also collect crocheted pot holders!     I need to figure out a better display idea for these wonderful pieces.    I think there is a possibility that I have entirely too many collections!   Yikes!
Can't forget the fun yard chairs!

Card Making

I love creating cards.    I found some fun paper on a garage sale a few weeks ago, and as I always do, I wish I would have bought more of it.  So, I will make the most of every last scrap.   I decided I wanted to include my sewing machine in this project.  I hope you can see the stitches in the photos.    Not sure how this hand me down machine of mine will handle too much paper.  I think I sew better with paper than material.  But, let me tell you how much fun we had.    Lauren thought it was pretty awesome too.    I think I am creating a little card making monster.
These are little gift bags.  I stitched the paper and then glued it to the front of the bag.
Then I made some greeting cards with the same paper and some fun tickets with various words from Tim Holtz and butterflies with my new punch that I love.

My little girl with a creative spirit

A proud momma moment!   I have recently decided I needed to get better at getting cards out for events.  I used to be so on the ball with cards, never missed birthdays, anniversaries, etc.   And why send a card when facebook and emails make it so much easier.   So, time for a change!
We were down in the basement making a present for Q and U.    The kindergarteners had the wedding of Q and U last week.  (Which I think is the cutest thing ever).   So, I got the paper out and we made them a wedding card.    We also needed to make a thank you card for some friends from Lauren that did some nice things for us.  So, she created her own card, with a little bit of time from me on the sewing machine.   I was so excited for what she came up with.    If I can teach her anything, I hope it is to use her creativity.

Having some Fun!

Life is too short to not have fun!   We had our first gymnastics competition.   A fun little "beginner meet" to give these little ones a taste of what a meet will be like.  Everyone got a trophy.  Which was the coolest thing in the world!!    Unfortunately, I am in desparate need of  a new camera, so my pictures were slim.   We thought it was so fun to watch the progress over the year.   And even more fun to see the smiles from the applauses and thumbs up.

It was so fun to get out and get some golf in.   Made me a little worried though since leagues start in less than a month.   Took until the 6th hole to get the ball to actually go where it was supposed to.   Didn't matter it was fun to just be outside enjoying an absolutely beautiful day!

My Old Wooden Chairs

Hello all, it has been a while!   Life has been crazy the last few weeks.   I really can't tell you where the nights and weekends go, in a blink, it is time to get up and face the day again.  What do you think of this crazy weather.  One day we are watching snow fall to hitting the golf course in less than 24 hours..   Weird. I recall an interesting post on Facebook that this person thought Mother Nature was suffering from a multiple personality disorder.  Something was going on.   I guess that is spring in the Midwest for you!

What do you think? These old wooden chairs were garage sale bargains a few summers ago.   I think I spent $3 for both.  They started off with more paint on them, but have weathered dearly.   So do I re-paint and re-distress them and what color?   White was good for awhile, but now I am ready for a new color.    I kind of think I want Robin's egg blue for one and mabe red for the other.    Kind of thinking geraniums and bacopa for the baskets!   Give me your opinion!  I would love to hear some ideas!

blog list

I have added a list of some blogs I love to follow.  The problem with blogs is I can spend hours losing myself in them and reading and looking at new ones I find!  It is my new addiction!

A super-cali-fragilistic-expelidocious weekend.

I truly just wanted to see if I could spell it, but really don't know!  Maybe I need to google it.
We started this weekend off with the opening of Hop!   What a cute little movie. I have to say I may never eat Jelly Beans again. But otherwise, you really fall in love with EB, the Easter Bunny's son.
When I read the weather for the weekend on the Weatherbug! I was pretty determined that flower beds were going to be cleaned out and we were not going to stay indoors until dark.  And with a small sunburn, I succeeded.

I am so excited all the spring bulbs I planted last fall are coming up and grew like crazy this weekend.   The fall has always been so busy that I have never been able to get bulbs planted.  So I got some planted in a small spot.   Sometimes I take what I can get.

But with Life comes..........

Death!

Yes, we started or Saturday morning with a funeral. Lauren had her very bestest BFF over for a sleepover and they were just as excited to get outside as I was.   The first rolly-polly was found!!!! I never knew this black little round bug could turn into hours of play.   But we found out that rolly-polly's don't like water.   So, hence a funeral.  But never fear, about 50 morewere found and are in a jar on the front porch.  I wonder if they know this cemetary will turn into a flower pot in the next month.

After a trip to Yanney, flower bed cleaning begins. I love it.   It is so awesome to clean all that dead stuff of winter and see all the green coming through.   Time to start making some garden plans, the green houses are coming up.   I am actually proud of myself, I am pretty ahead of schedule.  Now need to decide where and if a veggie garden is going to be planted.  Need to sweet talk my dad for a pumkin spot again at the farm.

Time for a break with some perfect weather for kite flying.   Thanks to the neighbor kids for the kite show!

After taking Lauren to ride horses.  (So proud of her, she did it all by herself, thanks to her BFF and her dad for their patience to teach her), I finished up the cleaning with 5 big garbage bags.

Today, I realized just how old I am getting by playing volleyball.  Yes, at 40, just isn't as easy as it used to be.  But good job ducks on another season!

We ended the weekend wth a great supper with our wonderful neighbors who have become great friends!   And the introduced us to a neat thing they do to after supper.  What is your best and worst of the day.   Well there were lots of "bests", but I now know what the worst was, that weekend ended.  We are truly blessed for the abitlity to enjoy what God has given us!

Well, thanks for reading! Have a great start to the week!
